Celtic boss Neil Lennon provided an update on the situation surrounding Leigh Griffiths after the striker created fresh controversy this week.

Celtic could have done with someone like Leigh Griffiths against Kilmarnock on Sunday as they struggled to create clear-cut opportunities. But the Hoops striker cannot stay away from controversy. And that is starting to bring his future at the club into question.

Just earlier this season, he caused huge uproar by returning to training out of shape. And then earlier this week he hosted a birthday party for his girlfriend, which broke the social distancing laws. This is just one in a long line of his questionable moves and he surely has to be walking a tight-rope at this stage.

On his day, Griffiths remains a top player and one the Celtic fans will be hoping to see firing on all cylinders soon. And Neil Lennon’s comments should provide some relief to those who were worried about his immediate future at the club.

As reported by Glasgow Live, when asked if Griffiths’ Celtic future was in jeopardy, Lennon said:

 “No.

“The club are conducting an investigation. I’m not convinced it’s a big issue, so, hopefully, it will be resolved in a couple of days.

“He’s not fit, he’s got a calf strain at the moment, so he would have missed the game anyway.”

That is certainly a positive update on a day that has been pretty disappointing for Celtic fans. After seeing their side drop a couple of points this early in the season, this should come as music their ears.

Griffiths must be careful though as even the smallest thing at this point could put his Parkhead future in danger. Lets just hope that he does not though as it is clear from the Kilmarnock display that we need him on the pitch.
