Celtic transfer target absolutely on fire on opening day

Celtic Park
Glasgow, Scotland - July 27, 2014: The Main Stand at Celtic Park home of Glasgow Celtic Football Club in Scotland. The football stadium is the largest in Scotland.

Celtic have been linked with the player in recent weeks and his performance on opening day could be what convinces them of his quality.

With 10-in-a-row up for grabs this season, Celtic will be hoping to assemble the strongest squad possible. With such high stakes, no mistake will be accepted by the fans. After all, these opportunities only come along once in a lifetime.

Thus, this transfer window is vital than most. And it is great that the Hoops have been linked with a number of players over the last couple of months. The important thing will be to get in players who can make an impact. And not just bring in players for the sake of it.

One position that Celtic do have a shortage of players though is right wing. While James Forrest is the undisputed number one there, the club could do with back up. Forrest faded away in the second half of last season and a repeat of that could prove vital.

One man Celtic have been linked with recently in that position is Hibernian’s Martin Boyle. And he did his chances of a transfer no harm on opening day. The winger scored a brace and led his side to a 2-1 victory over Kilmarnock. As far as auditions go, they don’t come any better than that.

While he might be known for his exceptional pace, Boyle does have output as well. In 28 appearances last season, he scored 6 goals and provided 8 assists. And those numbers will only grow if he plays in a team like Celtic.

All in all, this is a position that the Hoops can strengthen in and Martin Boyle would be a solid addition. He would not cost a lot and should be an exceptional back-up option to James Forrest. Now let’s see what Celtic do.
