International boss wants Celtic star to leave in the summer

One international boss has openly stated that he would love to see a certain Celtic star leave the club during the summer.

Australian national team assistant manager Rene Meulensteen has recently come out after the Celtic match with Livingston that Tom Rogic should leave the club. Many may remember Rene Meulensteen from his time with Manchester United as an assistant to Alex Ferguson.

It is always frustrating to see another manager of any sort try to interfere with the Hoops. Especially when it concerns one of the players, and a beloved one at that. It is no coincidence his comments about Tom Rogic came directly after the match with Livingston where he scored the extra time goal to even things up.

Tom Rogic has been a big part of this club, despite not seeing as much time in the first team this season. Instead, he has come through in some pretty big situations which is why Neil Lennon and the club still value him so highly. Rogic has made 21 appearances this season for the club. He has scored two goals, and added another four assists.

Speaking to The Sun, Rene Meulensteen tried to make his pitch to Tom Rogic:

“Tommy shouldn’t be on the bench. He’s a player who should play every week. It’s not my decision to make but it’s a shame for us, as we want all our top players to play as much football as possible.

“Maybe come the summer, there might be a move for him coming up. I’m sure there are clubs looking at him. Celtic are a great club and Tommy always speaks with such passion about him but sometimes things move in a different way and I think if he doesn’t get regular football, he probably needs to look elsewhere.

“Tommy’s such a good player. He’s a strong, powerful lad but for his size, he is so tactically good. He has an unbelievable left foot and it was great to see him score a goal against Livingston.”

While Tom Rogic is an Australian-national, and plays for the squad, it stills seems a bit odd that a coach of Rene Meulensteen’s stature would publicly blast the club the way he has. In any case, it remains to be seen what will come of the situation regarding Tom Rogic.
