The Celtic star suffered an injury at the hands of his own teammate during their 2-1 win over St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals.
It seems like Celtic cannot catch a break at the moment. The club has suffered a lot due to injuries with a number of their key stars spending time on the sidelines through the course of the season. And as if those were not enough, now they have found a way to injure each other accidentally.
The Hoops recently managed to qualify for the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup after defeating St Johnstone away at Perth in testing conditions. And the incident took place late in the game when a clearance from Nir Bitton clattered into his left arm at full force.
Fortunately, the injury is not serious enough to keep the midfielder out of action. Otherwise Celtic would have been in trouble without one of their key players when they travel to Livingston.
As reported by Daily Record, speaking on the situation, Neil Lennon said:
“Callum is going to be in a plastic cast of some sort. Nir Bitton absolutely hammered the ball at him from five yards away. He came legging it over and said he needed a caffeine shot. He was feeling a little bit of discomfort in it this morning, but he should be ok.”
Celtic fans would have breathed a huge sigh of relief upon hearing the news.
McGregor has started all of Celtic’s league games this season. And would not want that run to come to an end in such underwhelming fashion. The club though will be without Jozo Simunovic tomorrow. Kris Ajer is also a doubt with a thigh strain.
Thus, do not be surprised if Lennon opts for a change in formation or decides to bring in Elhamed back into the team in order to fill in at centre-back.
