Neil Lennon has provided an update regarding Odsonne Edouard’s contract situation at Celtic. A number of clubs around Europe have their eyes set on the Frenchman.
Celtic have a battle on their hands to keep hold of Odsonne Edouard past this season. The Frenchman has been in brilliant form again this season. And clubs around Europe will surely come calling when the transfer window reopens.
Under ideal circumstances, Celtic would have won nine-in-a-row this season. That would have hopefully convinced Edouard to stay one more season. But the fate of this season’s title is not known at this moment. And it is very possible that the season might be declared ‘null and void’.
That could spell the end of Celtic’s hopes of keeping hold of the Frenchman. Clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea want him. And without the added incentive of ten-in-a-row, it will be extremely hard to keep him at Parkhead.
Many fans believe that the club might also look to cash in on him. And that money will take care of all the losses that they have suffered due to the suspension of the league.
That is not the case according to Neil Lennon. Speaking on BBC Five Live, the Celtic boss said:
“It’s uncertain. Ideally you would like to keep your prized assets for at least another year anyway. If the market galvanises itself again, you could look at it then.
“There’s no question there’s going to be interest in him. But, ideally, we’d like to tie him down to another year on top of what he has already and keep him here.”
It is reassuring to hear that Celtic still want to hold on to Edouard. Judging by the recent past, it would not be surprising to see the board flip him for a profit.
